Formed in 1994 in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Les Ogres de Barback is a quartet composed of siblings Fred, Sam, Alice, and Mathilde Burguière. The group quickly distinguished itself through its artistic independence and commitment, opting for self-production and a strong connection with its audience from its beginnings. Their music is a rich and eclectic exploration, blending the tradition of French chanson with diverse influences drawn from world music, folk, rock, and gypsy sounds.
What most characterizes Les Ogres is their mastery of a multitude of instruments. On stage as in the studio, they effortlessly switch from accordion to violin, cello to guitar, as well as brass instruments, banjo, or mandolin, creating a sound palette of rare richness. Their lyrics, poetic and often committed, address social and humanist themes with their unique tenderness and humor, while inviting both celebration and reflection.
Throughout a prolific discography, including emblematic albums like Fata Morgana (1999), La Grande Ourse (2001), and Amours grises & colères rouges (2014), the group has built a coherent and acclaimed body of work. They are also known for their parallel projects, notably the "Pitt Ocha" series of children's albums, and for their collaborations with other artists from the French scene, such as the album Un air, deux familles with Les Hurlements d'Léo.
Les Ogres de Barback embody a spirit of freedom and sharing.
