The Wombats are a British indie rock trio from Liverpool, formed in 2003. The band is known for its catchy melodies, often humorous and introspective lyrics, and energetic live performances.

Formed in Liverpool in 2003 by Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar), Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass), and Dan Haggis (drums), The Wombats quickly made their mark on the British indie rock scene. The band gained significant recognition with their debut album, A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, released in 2007, which achieved critical and commercial success with tracks like “Let's Dance to Joy Division” and “Moving to New York.”

Their musical style blends elements of alternative rock, post-punk revival, and dance-punk, characterized by driving basslines, punchy guitar riffs, and atmospheric synthesizers. Murphy's lyrics often explore themes of modern anxiety, complex relationships, and urban life, delivered with a distinctive blend of irony and honesty.

Over the years, The Wombats have continued to evolve, releasing acclaimed albums such as The Modern Glitch (2011), Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life (2018), and Fix Yourself, Not The World (2022). The band has maintained a loyal fanbase and a significant presence on the international festival circuit, solidifying their reputation as a dynamic and innovative indie rock act.
