Wormrot is a grindcore band from Singapore, formed in 2007. Known for their intense sound and relentless speed, they have established themselves as a significant force in the international extreme metal scene.
Formed in Singapore in 2007, Wormrot quickly established itself on the global grindcore scene with its brutal and uncompromising approach. The trio, originally comprising Arif Suhaimi on vocals, Rasyid Juraimi on guitar, and Fitri Talib on drums, captured attention with the frenetic energy of their compositions, characterized by incessant blast beats, abrasive riffs, and explosively short tracks. Their sound is a visceral blend of pure grindcore, crust punk, and death metal influences.
Their debut album, Abuse (2009), released on Earache Records, was widely acclaimed and propelled Wormrot to prominence, enabling them to embark on global tours. This success was solidified by Dirge (2011), which continued to explore and refine their sonic formula. The band is renowned for their intense live performances and their hardworking ethos, embodying the DIY spirit of grindcore while achieving international recognition.
Following a period of line-up changes, notably Fitri's departure and the arrival of Vijesh Ghariwala on drums, Wormrot released Voices in 2016. This album showcased increased songwriting maturity while retaining their signature aggression. It was praised for its cleaner production and exploration of slightly more varied dynamics, without ever betraying the grindcore essence.
Their latest album, Hiss (2022), continued this evolution, proving the band's ability to innovate within their genre. Wormrot remains a benchmark for its relentless grindcore, making a significant contribution to extreme music and inspiring numerous bands with its integrity and sonic power.
