The Lumberjack Feedback - 26 May 2011 - L'Aeronef - Lille

music · ·L'Aeronef, Lille

The Lumberjack Feedback is a French instrumental sludge and post-metal band from Lille, known for its monolithic compositions and distinctive use of two drummers, creating a dense and crushing atmosphere.

Formed in Lille in the early 2010s, The Lumberjack Feedback quickly established itself as a notable figure in the French instrumental heavy scene. The band distinguishes itself through a musical approach focused on massive, repetitive riffs, deep sonic textures, and a doom and sludge intensity. Their unique feature lies in the integration of two drummers, a configuration that gives their sound exceptional rhythmic power and density, forging an immersive wall of sound.

Their self-titled EP in 2011 laid the groundwork for their style, quickly followed by the album Blackened Visions in 2013, which solidified their reputation for long, atmospheric compositions. Mariana (2016) then explored even more abyssal depths, while Mere Mortals (2021) continued to refine their sonic identity, characterized by relentless heaviness and dark atmospheres.

The work of The Lumberjack Feedback is an exploration of the extremes of heavy music, where melody is often sacrificed in favor of texture and raw power. Without vocals, the band communicates through instrumental soundscapes that evoke desolation, primal force, and a certain form of sonic meditation, placing them in the lineage of influential post-metal and instrumental sludge bands.
