13&God - 20 May 2011 - L'Aeronef - Lille

music · ·L'Aeronef, Lille

13&God is a unique collaborative project between German indie-electronic band The Notwist and American experimental hip-hop trio Themselves, merging their respective styles into an innovative approach.

Formed in 2003, 13&God emerged from the distinct yet complementary worlds of The Notwist and Themselves (comprising Doseone, Jel, and Odd Nosdam). This alliance gave birth to a hybrid sound, blending The Notwist's melancholic electronica and intricate arrangements with Themselves' abstract lyricism, Doseone's distinctive flow, and experimental sonic textures.

Their self-titled debut album, 13 & God, released in 2005, was acclaimed for its ability to create an organic dialogue between two seemingly disparate genres: post-rock/indie-tronica and alternative hip-hop. Tracks oscillate between atmospheric instrumental passages and rhythmic sequences marked by spoken word and rap, all enveloped in meticulous and inventive production.

The group continued to explore this fusion with their second album, Own Your Ghost, released in 2011. This record deepened their exploration of ethereal melodies and complex rhythms, solidifying their reputation as a unique musical entity rather than just a side project. 13&God stands as a successful collaboration, challenging genre conventions and offering a rich, immersive auditory experience.
