OM is an American doom metal and stoner rock band, founded in 2003 in San Francisco by bassist and vocalist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius, both former members of the seminal band Sleep. Following Sleep's dissolution, Cisneros and Hakius sought to explore a more minimalist and spiritual musical approach, focusing on long, repetitive compositions.

Their style is characterized by stripped-down instrumentation, predominantly bass and drums, creating a heavy, meditative, and drone-like sound. Lyrical themes, often inspired by religious, philosophical, and mystical subjects, are delivered in a deep, monotone vocal style, enhancing the contemplative atmosphere. Influences from Middle Eastern music, Byzantine chants, and Sufi traditions are palpable in their hypnotic melodies and rhythmic structures.

OM's discography includes significant albums such as Variations on a Theme (2004), Conference of the Birds (2006), and the acclaimed Pilgrimage (2007), which solidified their distinctive sound. After Hakius's departure in 2008, Emil Amos took over on drums, introducing new dynamics. The album Advaitic Songs (2012) is often cited as a highlight, incorporating additional instruments like cello and flute, further enriching their sonic palette.

OM is recognized for its ability to transcend the boundaries of doom and stoner metal, offering a profound and immersive sonic experience that encourages introspection. Their music is a sonic exploration of spirituality, repetition, and contemplation, positioning them as a unique and influential entity in the landscape of experimental heavy music.
