music · ·L'Aeronef, Lille

Napalm Death is a pioneering British grindcore band, formed in 1981. They are renowned for their brutal and fast sound, combining hardcore punk and death metal elements with politically charged lyrics.

Napalm Death, founded in Meriden, West Midlands, in 1981, is universally acknowledged as one of the seminal bands of the grindcore genre. Their early works redefined the boundaries of musical aggression, characterized by extreme speed, ultra-short songs, and guttural vocals. Landmark albums such as Scum (1987) and From Enslavement to Obliteration (1988) are considered cornerstones of the genre, influencing countless extreme metal acts.

Over the decades, while their lineup has seen numerous changes, key members like bassist Shane Embury (since 1987) and vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway (since 1989) have ensured stylistic continuity. The band progressively incorporated death metal elements, notably from albums like Harmony Corruption (1990) onwards, while retaining their characteristic intensity and political and social lyrical approach.

Their prolific discography showcases a consistent evolution without ever compromising their sonic integrity. Albums such as Utopia Banished (1992), Smear Campaign (2006), or more recently Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism (2020) demonstrate their ability to remain relevant and influential. Napalm Death has maintained a major presence in the global extreme metal scene, continuing to tour extensively and release critically acclaimed albums. Their legacy is one of an unrelenting and innovative force that pushed the boundaries of extreme music.
