Les Frères Nubuck is a French band acclaimed for its inventive independent pop and unique lyrics. Formed around Chris Gontard and Rémy Chante, the duo left its mark on the 2000s with its distinctive musical approach.
Hailing from the Grenoble-Valence region, Les Frères Nubuck is a French band founded by multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Chris Gontard and Rémy Chante. Often joined by other musicians such as Nicolas Castagne on cello and Jean-Louis Maybe on saxophone, the group distinguished itself with an "artisanal pop bomb", incorporating fifty years of pop music history with "tinkering and sound samples".
Their career is notably marked by albums such as "Chez les nudistes" (2004) and "Chaque vivant est un mort en puissance" (2006), the latter being seen as a major turning point that should have brought them wider national recognition. The band's releases are often handled by Sorry But Home Recording Records, frequently in limited CD-R editions.
Les Frères Nubuck are known for their dynamic stage performances and the unique quality of their lyrics, described as "delightfully quirky or simply touching", delivered with "flows cultivating their uncertainties". Despite modest commercial success, they are considered by some critics to be one of the most unjustly underestimated French bands of their era, having forged a strong and original musical identity.
