music · ·La Malterie, Lille

Monno is an Austrian duo (sometimes trio) exploring the boundaries of drone, noise, and experimental doom metal. Their music is characterized by massive sound textures and immersive compositions.

Monno is an Austrian musical project formed in the early 2000s, primarily consisting of Bernhard Breuer on drums and Martin Brugger on bass, sometimes augmented by electronics. The group has built a reputation for its minimalist and brutal approach to sound, fusing elements of drone, noise, experimental doom metal, and industrial music. Their compositions are often characterized by extremely low frequencies, hypnotic repetitions, and overwhelming sonic intensity.

Throughout their career, Monno has developed a unique musical language where space and silence are as crucial as the walls of sound. Their albums, including notable works such as Error (2006) and The Empty House (2009), have been praised for their ability to create deep and immersive atmospheres. They have released their music on influential labels like Editions Mego, cementing their place in the avant-garde scene.

The band is renowned for the visceral power of their live performances, often described as physical sound experiences. Their exploration of extreme sonic textures and slow dynamics has positioned them as a respected figure in drone and experimental music, influencing and collaborating with other artists in the scene, notably through joint tours with bands like Nadja.
