Gojira is a French metal band acclaimed for its unique blend of progressive and technical death metal, characterized by complex rhythms and profound ecological themes.

Formed in 1996 in Bayonne, France, initially as Godzilla before changing to Gojira in 2001, the band has established itself as a major force in the international metal scene. Comprising brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals, guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar), and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass), Gojira has developed a distinctive sound that merges the brutality of death metal with progressive structures and atmospheric soundscapes.

Their discography is marked by seminal albums that highlight their evolution, including From Mars to Sirius (2005), often cited for its innovation, and The Way of All Flesh (2008), which solidified their reputation. They continued to refine their sound with L'Enfant Sauvage (2012) and Magma (2016), the latter earning a Grammy Award nomination. Their lyrics frequently delve into environmental issues, spirituality, and the human condition, lending thematic depth to their powerful music.

Gojira is renowned for its instrumental technicality, heavy and hypnotic riffs, as well as Joe Duplantier's dynamic vocal performances, alternating intense growls with more melodic passages. Their influence on contemporary metal is considerable, inspiring numerous bands with their originality, artistic integrity, and commitment. They are widely regarded as pioneers of French metal on a global scale.
