Dälek - 28 April 2008 - Le Grand Mix - Tourcoing

music · ·Le Grand Mix, Tourcoing

Dälek is an American experimental hip-hop group, known for its avant-garde approach fusing rap with elements of noise, industrial, and drone, creating dense and dark soundscapes.

Formed in 1998 in Newark, New Jersey, Dälek is an iconic musical project led by MC Dälek (Will Brooks), often joined by collaborators such as DJ rEK and Mike Mare. The group has distinguished itself by its ability to push the boundaries of traditional hip-hop, integrating abrasive sonic textures, complex samples, and heavy rhythms inspired by industrial rock and drone music.

Their discography, primarily released on Ipecac Recordings, includes seminal albums such as From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots (2002) and Absence (2004). These works exemplify their unique sound, characterized by massive, noisy instrumentals over which MC Dälek's deep, introspective flow addresses often dark and sociopolitical themes.

Dälek has built a reputation for intense and immersive live performances, where the raw energy of their music fully unfolds. The group continues to influence the underground scene by demonstrating that hip-hop can explore unexpected sonic territories, far from commercial conventions.
