Formed in Sydney in 1992, Pollyanna quickly emerged as a significant force in the Australian independent rock scene. Initially comprising Matt Handley (guitar, vocals), Maryke "Milly" van der Brugge (bass), and Glen Maynard (drums), the band evolved with the addition of Andrea Roberts (vocals, guitar), adding a distinctive female vocal dimension. Their sound was characterized by a blend of power pop and alternative rock, featuring catchy guitar riffs and introspective lyrics.
Their debut album, Long Player (1996), was a critical and commercial success, propelling Pollyanna to national prominence with tracks like "Pillow Talk" and "Junior."
