music · ·La Malterie, Lille

neko is a French instrumental rock trio from Lille, formed in 2003. Their music is characterized by atmospheric post-rock sounds and elaborate sonic textures.

Formed in Lille, France, in 2003, neko is a trio that quickly established itself on the local music scene with a unique approach to instrumental rock. While often categorized as post-rock by the press as early as 2003, their music draws influences from bands like The Cure, Girls vs. Boys, and The Smashing Pumpkins, all while developing their distinct sound.

The band made its first stage appearances in May 2004 in bars in and around Lille. After a self-produced demo titled "Explicit Lyrics," neko released the four-track EP "Ghost Tracks" in June 2005, followed by the EP "One Hit Wonder!" in May 2009.

Over the years, neko expanded its tours beyond Northern France, performing in Belgium and Paris. In 2006, the trio was recognized as one of the best bands in the region by Presto! magazine and had the opportunity to play in prestigious venues and open for acts like 65daysofstatic. They also contributed to the soundtrack of the medium-length film "Les Somnambules" and began experimenting with guitar loops in 2007 to enrich their compositions.
