Locust Fudge - 18 June 1996 - Le Pharos - Arras

music · ·Le Pharos, Arras

Locust Fudge is a German noise-pop and indie rock duo formed in the early 90s, known for their lo-fi approach, dreamy melodies, and psychedelic atmosphere. The band left its mark on the independent scene with its distinctive style.

Formed in Hamburg in the early 1990s, Locust Fudge is the primary project of Kristof Hahn, also a member of The Swans, and Joakim Westberg. The duo quickly distinguished itself with its lo-fi sonic aesthetic, blending acoustic guitars with noise and psychedelic textures, creating an atmosphere that was both melancholic and dreamlike. Their music is often associated with the German independent scene of the era, sometimes linked to the "Hamburger Schule" movement for its introspective approach and stylistic independence.

Their discography began with the album "Fuzzy Logic" in 1994, which laid the groundwork for their characteristic sound. This was followed by "Little Things" in 1996, an album that solidified their reputation. Locust Fudge managed to develop a unique identity, marked by raw production and poignant songwriting, often imbued with a certain fragility.

Throughout their career, Locust Fudge maintained a discreet yet consistent approach, exploring territories between indie rock, psychedelic folk, and noise pop. Their albums are intimate sonic explorations where sound experiments meet catchy melodies, influencing a current of German indie rock and beyond through their authenticity and singularity.
